About Us: Grand River Sports Medicine Centre (GRSM) is a multidisciplinary full-service sports medicine company in a phase of rapid growth. GRSM consists of a team of enthusiastic and dedicated health care professionals, with three locations in Kitchener and Cambridge, Ontario. Join the GRSM team of physicians that includes 1 orthopedic surgeon, 2 primary care sports medicine physicians and 1 sports medicine pediatrician. In addition, GRSM has a skilled group of allied health care professionals including 21 physiotherapists/athletic therapists, 4 chiropractors, 8 massage therapists, as well as a pedorthist and a dietician.

Specialized Services: In addition to primary care sports medicine clinics, GRSM offers you the opportunity to take part in specialized clinics such as Sport Concussions, Acute Injuries, Knee Osteoarthritis, PRP Injections, Stem Cell Injections, Ultrasound-Guided Injections, as well as other specialized interests that you may want to develop.

Your Requirements: Applicants for this position must hold CPSO registration and CASEM Diploma Certification. Sports Medicine PGY3 training is preferable, but not required, depending on other experience and training.

GRSM is a full-service sports medicine centre with facilities in Kitchener and Cambridge, ON. We focus on the assessment and treatment of sports injuries in the athletic and active population. Our multi-disciplinary services include: sports medicine, physiotherapy, chiropractic care, massage therapy, pedorthic services, and sports nutrition. We are looking for a part time Registered Physiotherapist for our downtown clinic located at 16 Andrew Street, Kitchener. This permanent position would start immediately with approximately 15 hours per week.

Successful applicants must have:

  • A passion for patient care and for treating athletes and active clients
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team
  • Experience in sports injuries is an asset
  • Current registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario

Program Description:

GRSM is offering Internship positions for highly motivated students who are interested in pursuing a career in the rehabilitation sciences.  This volunteer program allows students to gain direct, hands-on clinical experience in a leading sports rehabilitation clinic.  Volunteers will interact and assist with physiotherapy assistants, physiotherapists and clients in a multi-disciplinary setting, as well as observe treatment sessions covering a wide range of treatments.  Multiple shifts are available at two clinic sites (Kitchener-South and Cambridge) for the Winter semester.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Orientation and training for tasks and duties related to assisting the physiotherapists
  • Observing assessment and treatment sessions with the physiotherapists
  • Assisting physiotherapists with various aspects of treatment (exercise supervision, applying modalities such as IFC, TENS and ultrasound, setting up hot/cold packs)
  • Self-directed learning by setting learning goals and asking questions
  • General cleaning and maintenance of the treatment area

Candidates who excel in our Internships may be offered subsequent opportunities within GRSM.

Applicant Requirement:

  • The Internship is offered to students who have successfully completed their first year of their program (or a minimum age of 18 years old)
  • A minimum commitment of approximately 4 months (1 semester) or 50 hours of volunteer time
  • Proficiency in self-directed learning
  • A desire to help others and to be part of a great team
