Dr. John McCuaig MD, CCFP(SEM), Dip. Sport Med.

Dr. McCuaig practices sports medicine and counseling at GRSM. He is an assistant clinical professor within the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry in the Department of Family Medicine at Western University. Dr. McCuaig also provides sports and general medical services to the varsity athletes at the University of Waterloo, and is the team physician for UW men’s varsity hockey.

Dr. McCuaig completed his undergraduate training at the University of Guelph, before moving on to Western University to complete his medical school training. Growing up in Waterloo Region, Dr. McCuaig then returned to the area – to the KW medical campus of McMaster University to complete his family medicine residency at the Centre For Family Medicine.  Dr. McCuaig completed an additional year of Enhanced Skills family medicine training in Sport & Exercise Medicine at Western University.

Dr. McCuaig’s sports medical coverage experience includes training at Western, providing general and sport-specific care for the varsity athletes of Western University and on-field coverage for both men’s and women’s varsity rugby, hockey, wrestling, and cross-country. Dr. McCuaig’s primary mental health care experience involves providing counseling to patients with post concussion syndrome, injured athletes, and the general student population at Fanshawe College. He has completed the Level I course in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy offered through the WLU Faculty of Social Work’s Professional Development Certificate Program.

For sport and leisure, Dr. McCuaig spends most of time playing hockey, mountain biking, and kayaking on the Grand River.
