Personal & High Performance Training

At GRSM, we are pleased to welcome two new Personal & High Performance Training coaches to our staff. Tyson Staples is a Strength & Conditioning Specialist and Karla McConnell is an Athletic Therapist. Together, Tyson and Karla bring 30 years of experience and we know they offer valuable services to our clients.

Personal & High Performance Training is a hands-on, individualized approach to all of your training, reconditioning and nutritional needs. We believe that high performance goes far beyond the elite athlete. High performance means helping you achieve your personal best, whether that means living a healthier, pain-free life, or winning gold at the World Championships.

High Performance Training at GRSM means we work with individuals, athletes and teams to develop and implement individualized or sport-specific training programs. Our goal is to help individuals or athletes, at all levels, to excel in their sport(s). Here at GRSM, we specialize in working with developing athletes.

We build individualized programs that:

  • build strength
  • offer sport-specific functional exercises that incorporate proper lifting techniques
  • decrease biomechanical deficiencies
  • improve core strength
  • maximize your SAQ (speed, agility, and quickness).


Personal Training & High Performance Services:

One-on-one private conditioning

Our personal strength coaches provide you with:

  - motivation
  - a personalized program.

You’ll see better results, have more fun and have greater success with less risk of injury.


Individual take-home training packages

This package includes two private sessions and a personalized 6-week program. These programs are ideal for home-use or fitness club members. Have one of our strength coaches design and teach you a personalized program that you can take with you. Your program will help you progress over a 6-week period.


High Performance Conditioning or Progressive 6-week Take Home

If you want to see dramatic improvements in your athletic performance, then high performance training is for you. Whether you’re an up-and-comer, a weekend-warrior, or an elite athlete, our coaches will work with you to eliminate your weaknesses and improve your performance. This service is suitable for athletes of all ages and abilities. Take Home programs available.


Personal Training Consultation: Free 

Not sure where to start? Book an appointment with any of our strength coaches. Together, you can discuss your goals and which of our services is best suited for you. Consultations are 30 minutes long.


Semi-Private and Group Training

Your small groups or teams can receive the above benefits and features with a little less privacy, but with the fun and challenge of a group dynamic. With this service, you can share costs and, in the case of sport teams and business groups, develop a fantastic team-building atmosphere.


Semi-private Training (2-3 persons)

NOTE: We will work with you to make sure that all individuals are suitably matched for semi-private training.


Testing Services:

Functional Movement Screen™  and Biomechanical Assessment

The Functional Movement Screen and training system will assess how you move through a series of functional movement patterns. Using a simple scoring system, we identify your limitations and imbalances and design a workout program that helps overcome them. We recommend a Functional Movement Screen for all of our clients who want to start a conditioning program.


Biosignature Assessment

Biosignature is an advancement in body fat analysis developed by world-renowned strength coach Charles Poliquin. His theory is that the secret to optimizing body fat comes down to understanding your body’s unique hormone profile. Biosignature Modulation takes twelve skinfold measurements, and with these values determines your hormone profile. The assessment also includes an interview and a follow-up appointment where we discuss your customized exercise, nutritional and supplement plan to help you reach your goals.

VO2 Testing

VO2 is the rate of oxygen consumption your muscles use during exercise. The maximal rate of oxygen uptake, named VO2 max is considered the ultimate measure of fitness. To score high on a VO2 max test requires a strong heart and lungs and high percentage of conditioned, lean muscle mass.

A true VO2 max test requires an individual to fully exert themselves, and should only be done under the supervision of a trained professional. Predictive maximal tests of VO2 are also another way to predict your max, and may be better suited to some individuals.

VO2 testing will also help determine your anaerobic threshold - the point where your body can no longer provide adequate oxygen to your working muscles. By knowing this value, you can determine the ideal exercise intensity to help you safely and quickly achieve optimal health.

At GRSM our VO2 testing is conducted by CSEP-CEP's (Exercise physiologists certified by the Canadian Association of Exercise Physiology). Our staff are trained to safely conduct the appropriate test for your needs, and custom-design a program to help you meet your goals.
