Tyson Staples

Tyson Staples, BSc(Kin), CEP, CSCS, Exercise Physiologist, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (Kitchener)

Tyson is a certified exercise physiologist and strength training professional. He is a recent addition to the GRSM team and also spends time training athletes at a performance conditioning centre in Toronto. He is a Certified Exercise Physiologist, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Renegade Kettlebell Instructor and a Poliquin Performance Centre trained Biosignature Practitioner.

Tyson received his Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from the University of Waterloo in 1998. He has experience training and consulting to range of athletes and clientswho are involved in hockey, rugby, soccer, tennis, golf, triathlon and professional stage acting. His passion for athletics and an accomplished sporting background first directed him toward the fitness industry in 1995. Starting as a personal trainer, he later evolved into a leader with Canada's largest chain of fitness clubs, lending his expertise to his peers, helping them to improve their own skills.

In his spare time, you'll likely find Tyson competing in one of his many athletic pursuits, which include playing rugby, hockey, competing at IronmanTM triathlon events, skiing, rock climbing or mountain biking.

 

Karla McConnell

Karla McConnell, Dip SIM, CAT(C), DAc, Certified Athletic Therapist, Certified Acupuncturist (Kitchener)

Karla graduated from Sheridan College's Sports Injury Management program and has been a Certified Athletic Therapist with the Canadian Athletic Therapist Association since 1996. In 2000 she obtained her Doctorate of Acupuncture. She has added valuable training skills by acquiring her Renegade Kettlebell Instructor and  becoming a Poliquin Performance Centre Biosignature Practitioner.

In her clinical practice, Karla utilizes many manual techniques including Muscle Energy, Soft Tissue Release and Myofascial Stretching. She takes a full body holistic approach to assessments, using a variety of tools such as the Functional Movement Screen TM to help identify muscle imbalances, mobility issues and to help prevent injuries.  Upon completion of rehabilitation, many of Karla's therapy clients take advantage of the personal training services she provides.

Karla has worked extensively with all levels of athletes from the amateur to the professional and has participated as a member of the medical team for the Ontario and Canada Games. Her team and athlete experience is broad and includes Ontario Women's Baseball, professional football, elite level marathoners, world class triathletes and duathletes, professional figure skaters, squash and football.  She also spent 2 years traveling with Stars on Ice North American figure skating tour. Her client base does not stop at the athletic athlete. She also works with artistic athletes. Karla has worked within the performing arts with professional dancers, professional stage performers and Hollywood actors and actresses.

Karla's own training keeps her in shape for her many sports including running, cycling, volleyball, baseball, soccer, and skiing.
