Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation This important group of muscles can be injured in many ways, such as through childbirth, constant straining or prolonged coughing or vomiting. They can be weakened by prolonged bed rest, or following prostate or gynecologic surgeries. Symptoms may include incontinence, or pelvic pain, or back or hip pains that linger in spite of proper management. If continence is a problem, leakage of urine may occur with coughing, jumping, or perhaps after getting fatigued during a run. It can be a minor issue through adulthood that only gets worse upon menopause, hindering an active lifestyle. Pelvic floor dysfunctions causing pain or continence problems can be successfully treated by physiotherapy. An internal examination reveals details about strength, control, and specific zones of weakness. Treatment may include biofeedback, manual techniques, electrical muscle stimulation and an exercise program. Therapy is provided in a quiet, private and comfortable setting by Bettina Holman, PT. Please note that a doctor's note is required for this service. |
