Video Analysis GRSM professionals may use sport-specific video analysis of athletic techniques to assess your needs. We use video analysis to record your athletic technique on video. We then analyze your technique on computer. We use the information to develop sport-specific and athlete-specific strengthening and/or rehabilitation programs. Video analysis is frequently used for, but not limited to, assessing the following:
Gait Analysis/Running analysis at GRSM
Completed by Gillian Lyttle, BPE, BHScPT, RCAMT, CPed(C), Registered Physiotherapist, Canadian Certified Pedorthist
By breaking down walking and running into their integral components, we can identify faulty or less than optimal movement patterns. When we analyze gait, especially running gaits, the individual is moving too quickly for us to break down the various phases withthe naked eye. By videotaping and then looking at the movement in slow motion or frame by frame, we can make a more specific and thorough analysis of the walking and running technique. During a gait analysis at GRSM, we:
Faulty movement patterns and poor technique can result in a wide assortment of injuries such as tendonitis, bursitis, low back pain, hip pain, toe pain, ITB friction syndrome, knee pain and plantar fasciitis. The physiotherapist/pedorthist has a comprehansive knowledge of anatomy, biomechanics and physiology, and is able to breakdown the phases of movement and identify potential problems with your mechanics. There are many studies that identify which muscles control specific aspects of gait. By correlating the results of a physical examination with those of a gait analysis, we are much more likely to identify the true cause of the problem. The visual feedback from the video analysis can also modivate and enlighten you. Most people have never watched themselves move and often don’t believe it when they are told they can improve their technique. When they see themselves on video, they see how they move, grasp the importance of their exercises and the full rehabilitation program, and become far more motivated to do their exercises. |
